discover the work of walker evans

Walker Evans comes from a wealthy family and lives a decent life with modest financial savings. In the library of Sylvia Beach in Paris he commits himself to literature. Great examples for him are Gustave Flaubert, Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce. In 1928 he decides to become a professional photographer. He is more fond of objects, urbanity and landscapes than humans. His works have a surrealistic touch. He begins to implement people into his photographs and reduces social contact. He becomes one of the definite portrait - photographers in America from 1928-74, mostly for photographic series on american suburban poverty and loneliness CONEY ISLAND BOARDWALK, 1929. He experiments with different camera technology and colour. He even shoots photographs hidden in subways.
